Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features Teor (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group reach areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
